What happens once I register?

IMPORTANT, Once you have registered your details are checked, edited and uploaded. This happens once a week Friday afternoon every week. If you register either side of the uploading day, it may take one full week to have your profile displayed on this site. Please do not be concerned.

When you register your details, before they go on line your details are vetted and certain information maybe removed in order to confirm with the data protection act.
On the Help Me Find website, your amended details will allow you to submit a search for the target you wish to seek.

If you feel you have a match, you are then able to send that profile (match) a private email via HMF admin. This message will be sent to HMF admin in order to be checked against the data protection policy guide lines. All personal details will be removed, admin will then forward the email to the target and so communication can start between the two profiles. Security questions will be introduced by HMF admin to see if there is a match. At all times HMF admin will be acting as an mediator to ensure the safeguard of the profiles. At no point will your email address or any form of contact details be shown to either party.

Once HMF admin are sure the two profiles are a good match we will instegate a private message board which can be viewed by the parties involved and by HMF admin. Once this process is complete and we are sure of all of the facts we will ask both parties in question if they wish for their personal contact details to be exchanged inorder to keep in touch with out the aid of Help Me Find admin.

At this point we then advise the use and consultantion of Adoption Counsellors in order to handle the actual match. HMF admin can advise the details of such counsellors within your area and send confidentually the details, held by HMF admin, of your profile and that of the person you believe to be a match.

On no occassion does HMF admin try to match or force any action on any of it's profile holders.

HMF admin always recommends the use of adoption counsellors to every protential match enquiry once it reaches a certain stage in the process.

HMF does not offer or charge for any consultations nor does it favour or recommend any specific adoption counselling service.

What do we do with your details.

Once you register, your profile is encrpted and uploaded to the site each and every Friday. This means if you register on a Friday night it might take a full week before your profile is live.

Your details are your details, they do not go anywhere else, the only people that can view your profile are other Help Me Find users.

Help Me Find was set up by 3 individuals to offer assistants to those who wish to find or be found. This is the only reason for Help Me Find

We neither charge or sell any of your details to any other party. Before Help Me Find, we used to voluntary assist people in manual searches via the like of births, deaths, marriages all via government records etc. But since the birth of the internet and all these records now being electronically filed, we decided to launch Help Me Find in 2004.

Why do we do it? Why don't we charge? What's in it for us? The answer is fairly straight forward, the people behind Help Me Find have a personal goal, the whole subject matter is very close to their heart. They would never dream of offering any of your details for any services, monitory or free of charge to any other party.

Tips On Searching

The easiest way is to look for a name ...say you want .....Alexander...just put Alex or better still Al.

This will give you all Alan's, Al's, Ali's and Alex's (male and female) as well as Alison and any other name beginning Al.

Same as Penelope....just put in Pe...you will get Peter, Pete, Penny, Petra and so on.

Try not to limit your search by making it too small. Once you have your list of Pete's.. Petra's...Penny's etc add another criteria.......maybe Male or Female and the search will filter out just the chosen.

Likewise if there are dozens of names in the search...add another criteria for birth month or year and try again.

Three or Four searches should cover all eventualities.

Tips On Advanced Search

For advanced search, click on advance search at the top of the page, a page will appear and just below the search people banner.

There is a "search" "advance search" box click the advance search option and a new page will apprear with 3 boxes running left to right.

The Search enables you to find people you are looking for as well as conduct a search for people who might be looking.

To look for people click on the name box and then select from the deisplayed criteria under the heading "who I'm looking for"

To see if people are looking for you, you click on the name box and then select from the displayed criteria under the heading "who is looking for me"

In the 3rd box (right hand side) put the name relevant to your search if known, if not known then click the name box and list the options that you do know about i.e sex at birth, birth year ect ect.

But for this example just put the name in the 3rd box then underneath "name" there is add criteria, click this and another 3 boxes appear on the next line. Click it again and another 3 and again another 3 will appear giving 12 boxes in total.

Go back to the second one and put in birth year and then type the year that you want in the right hand box.

This action will search all profiles with that name, born on that year, that have registered on the HMF site.

If you want to expand it further, go to the 3rd line of boxes down and put in region born and choose a region from a drop down.

Repeat the same process with the 4th box down and put in sex at birth, male or female.

This request means the search will look for anyone with that name in the first box, or who's message contains that name or birth year and the region born with the sex chosen.

Press search,

Example 1st box Peter

2nd box 1965

3rd box unknown region / birth

4th box sex at birth male

Match any criteria -- shows over 200 results

Hi it's Katie,

How are you all doing.....?

Happy New Year.

Hope you are all well and safe and that 2022 so far has been good to you. Wow things have really changed just as we were finally getting back to normal, we have a new variant but we are still cracking on with it. Things are still a little weird - we have been divided now the mask wearers and non-mask wearers, the vaxxers and the anti vaxxers. My only advice is you carry on doing you, do what makes you feel safe and happy.

The vaccines and the boosters are being rolled out, the numbers are going down, children have started to have their 2nd jabs most adults have had their boosters already which is amazing, well done to the NHS and everyone that has had a hand in this. As long as we keep with the social distancing when you can and if possible, where a mask we will get through this. But do remember we're all in this together and not everyone is able to wear a face covering or keep to social distancing.

Remember if you are feeling that you are struggling at the moment make sure you speak with someone, anyone, pick up and call for help. How you feel today is not how you will be feeling tomorrow, or maybe you will but you will not feel like it forever.

The Coronavirus is still doing it's rounds but we are still adding people's profiles to the web, we have set ourselves a target this year.

We really are trying to get to 10.000 subscribers, if we get there this will allow us to approach and advertise in different areas that so far people have thought we were too small for.

It is always difficult (and in mind we started in 2004) it has been a long nearly 16 years to get to where we are at. We never judge or reject anyone unless of course there is age restriction.

This year we really hope that we can break the 10.000 barrier.

Although numbers are not everything as we have rejected over 1000 profiles due to insufficient information being given.

HMF prides itself on being free to use throughout and offering support and searching to everyone free of charge, but we can only do this if the information is true and relevant. So, help us get to 10.000 valid profiles and spread the word.

We have now got over a whopping 9546 subscribers or people looking for other people just like you.
